Synopsis
Set in a zoo near the city of Johannesburg, this story is an adventure about a group of animals who long to be free and live in the wild. The zoo is cruel and badly run and the animals are sad and frustrated. Narrated by a cheetah called Blizzard this tale is exciting and funny with a few tear jerking moments. The story focuses on six friends, two giraffes called Purdy and Gambit, an old ostrich called Columbus, two lions, Mombassa and Bella and of course Blizzard the cheetah. They are very dear friends and talk late into the night each evening, sharing their thoughts and fears. They lean on one another for support and no one will need this more than Mombassa and Bella when Bella becomes pregnant. Not long before this happens, two hyenas have their litter of cubs stolen by the zoo workers and sold on to other zoos. Mombassa and Bella await the day that their cubs are taken with dread and worry. What happens to the cubs and will Mombassa and Bella ever see their children again? Will the animals in the zoo ever find their freedom? With a host of lovable characters, including a huge pink-bow-wearing elephant called Bubble and a crazy zebra called Zippy, this book is great to either read to your children, or for them to read by themselves.
